Report Card on 2023 Agenda Bills and Other Legislation
IIK had three bills on its agenda going into the 2023 legislative session, and a fourth was added shortly before the second part of the session began. Those bills and the outcome for each are summarized below.
- HB 12 -Hands-free Cell Phone Use: This bill did not receive a committee hearing despite our best efforts and those of the bill sponsor. We plan to support this bill again in the 2024 session. You can read more about the need for this bill here.
- HB 102 – Delivery network companies: There were issues raised about this bill during the session, so it was put on hold to refine it before the 2024 legislative session.
- HB 135 – Autonomous vehicles: This bill was passed by the General Assembly, but the Governor vetoed it after the General Assembly had adjourned, meaning that the veto could not be overridden.
- HB 232- Public Adjuster Regulation: This bill was passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor. You can read more about it here.
One other bill of note was also passed during the session. HB 210, which updated the governing statutes for the Kentucky Guaranty Association passed the General Assembly and was signed by the Governor.
